Genealogy

In response to the overwhelming interest in those who came before us, the Tamaqua Public Library is revamping our family and local history section.  With moneys received from a Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) grant, we have purchased a computerized microfilm reader.  Not only do we now have the capability to print articles from our archived-newspaper microfilm rolls, we can create a digital image of the article just as easily.  With funds from other grants, we have purchased numerous books of compiled records from local churches, cemeteries, and government archives.  We are also now accepting donations of family research projects to be shelved for public use, attempting to complete our holding of area yearbooks, and investigating the possibility of housing copies of Tamaqua area church records at the library.

Check back often to see what additions we have made and please understand that it is a work in progress.
