2008 SUMMER READING PROGRAM


 

 

The summer reading program, beginning on Monday, June 16, will run 8 weeks through the summer, concluding on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 (no program the week of June 30). Three sessions will be held each week based on the age of the participating child. The schedule is as follows:

Monday, 6:00 to 7:30 pm - Ages 7 to 13
Tuesday, 10:00 to 11:00 am - Ages 2 to 6
Wednesday, 10:00 to 11:00 am - Ages 2 to 6

A central idea about bugs will be the focus of each week's program, but don't be surprised to learn about non-bug topics too! The central topics for each week are:

Week 1: Bugs People Eat
Week 2: Bugs that Eat People!
Week 3: Bugs that Beautify
Week 4: Bugs that Bug Us!
Week 5: Record-Holding Bugs!
Week 6: Bugs that Spread Disease
Week 7: Good Bugs/Bad Bugs
Week 8: Historic Bugs, Heroic Bugs!

Each program session includes reading stories aloud, activities, crafts, snacks, and fun!

WEEK 2 OF THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM

Trooper Robert Wessner from the Forensics Division of The Pennsylvania State Police will be at the library on Monday, June 23 at 6 p.m. (for children, ages 7 to 13) to talk about the science of entomology as it relates to forensic science. Anyone who is a fan of CSI or likes insects should definitely attend.

CHILDREN'S BOOK PUBLISHED POSTHUMOUSLY BY FORMER TAMAQUA SCHOOL TEACHER

The Littlest Raindrop, a children's book written by a former Tamaqua Elementary School Teacher, Mr. Fred M. Valent, will be read aloud at the library during Spring Story Time on Tuesday, April 29th and Wednesday, May 7th and during the PA One Book, Every Young Child program on Saturday, April 26th.  Copies of the book will be available for purchase, with the author's signature stamped in the book.
